British Airways and Globe-Trotter have created a limited edition suitcase to commemorate the retirement of the British Airways BOAC 747. The British Airways x Globe-Trotter BOAC Carry-on Suitcase is handmade in England and features the BOAC ‘Speedbird’ insignia and an actual piece of a BA 747 aircraft incorporated into Globe-Trotter’s iconic lightweight luggage.
British Airways and Globe-Trotter have a proud history of collaboration spanning decades. In the 1960s, Globe-Trotter was the luggage brand of choice for BOAC (British Overseas Airways Corporation) crew who treasured them for their strength and durability. Former BOAC air stewardess Hilary Farish inspired a popular Globe-Trotter luggage collection with her 1960s suitcase which was completely covered in stickers and marks from her extensive travels.
Taking inspiration from the iconic BOAC livery of dark blue and white with the golden ‘Speedbird’ insignia, the collaboration model is made from high gloss vulcanised fibreboard with a metallic sheen for a pearlescent white shimmer, which is complemented by Navy leather trim on the corners and handles. A hand-painted gold Speedbird insignia adorns the exterior, while a piece of history is added to the interior where a precious fragment taken from a British Airways Boeing 747 will decorate the interior of the lid.
