AW22 Globe-Trotter Trends - GLOBE-TROTTER

Globe-Trotter looks at the key new-season colours to invest in.

When autumn hits the British Isles, it arrives with a bang. The languid summer days and scorching temperatures (of which we’ve seen an unprecedented amount recently) seem to stop overnight as soon as 1 September arrives, replaced with fog and rain and gloomy skies.

So, it seems somewhat incongruous that during the Fashion Weeks designers showcase their spring/summer collections to the world. While the fashion elite will be keeping a keen eye on what we can expect in 2023, the rest of us are in the throes of autumn and dressing for the season.

Here, Globe-Trotter highlights five key colours for autumn/winter 2022 and how you can tap into these trends with our luggage and accessories.

TRUE BLUE

Bright blue is making its way into our wardrobes this winter, alongside a veritable rainbow of neon brights and Barbie pink (more on that later). Cerulean is a shade that actually ranges from bright azure blue to sky blue. It’s a tone that normally pops up in the warmer months as it exudes sun, sea and summer, but designers are embracing it this season with elegant silk tailoring and party dresses.

Cruise is one of our most popular collections. The eye-catching royal blue body is contrasted with black straps and handles, with an interior pinstripe lining reminiscent of a luxury yacht. It’s timeless and romantic; classic yet strikingly contemporary – and very in vogue.

ALL-OUT AUTUMN

Brown for autumn? Groundbreaking. OK, we’ll stop with the Miranda put-downs, but it would be fair to say that, on the surface, brown hardly seems like an original or indeed exciting colour for the colder months. Au contraire. Brown is a classic and sophisticated shade that suits everyone and looks effortlessly elegant in shades of chocolate, camel, cinnamon and bronze. It’s a staple for autumnal outerwear, as seen on the Chanel and Fendi catwalks, or, when worn head-to-toe (think chunky knit jumpers, long slinky skirts and knee-high boots) is absolutely flawless. Burgundy, an alternative yet complementary shade, is also on trend this season.

Oxblood is the perfect autumnal shade. Not quite red, brown or purple, it’s in a sartorial league of its own. Globe-Trotter’s Oxblood collection is a gorgeous colour paired with black and gold detailing. The range features every piece of luggage and accessory you could possibly want, including suitcases in all sizes, the London Square bag, watch cases and attachés. Elsewhere, our Brown/Burgundy suitcase and the Safari collection in Brown/Natural are equally great pieces that embrace the autumnal trend.

PAINT IT BLACK

It probably won’t come as a surprise that black is a perennially popular shade for the autumn/winter season, especially with the days getting shorter and Halloween on the horizon. Designers have certainly embraced the dark side this year, with #gothaesthetic taking over Instagram and corsets and dominatrix-inspired styles seen at Valentino and Isabel Marant. With all those hell-for-leather looks on the runway, “biker chick” is another autumn/winter trend that embraces every colour, so long as it's black.

Black may sometimes be derided as dull or “safe” but, when worn head-to-toe, it’s undeniably chic; even daring. If all-black is your vibe, then you’ll love our new Midnight collection which, for the first time, features a black Vulcanised Fibreboard suitcase with matching straps, riveting, handles and even lining. The same Black/Black style is also available with chrome or brass hardware.

CREAM OF THE CROP

Apparently, the must-buy piece for the new season is the humble white tank top. Although it’s not quite so humble when designed by Bottega Veneta, Chloé or Prada, who have all produced their own elegant versions. It all ties into the current ’90s minimalist trend, which embraces soft, neutral tones as a palette refresh. The beauty of softer colours – white, cream, beige, sand – is that they can act as a neutral base on which to add a pop of colour or pattern. Equally, they look stunning when worn as a solid outfit.

A Globe-Trotter suitcase doesn’t come more classic than our Safari collection in Ivory/Natural. Some may baulk at the idea of travelling with cream-coloured luggage, but both the ivory body and natural leather straps age beautifully with time and wear, and develop a rich patina.

IN THE PINK

Unless you’ve been living in Antarctica without wifi for the past year then surely you have seen the stills of Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling as Barbie and Ken in Greta Gerwig’s upcoming live action Barbie movie. Snaps of the actors in his ’n’ hers acid green and neon pink Lycra practically broke the internet, and hot pink (also known as Barbiecore) is the trend for autumn/winter, with Valentino even dedicating an entire collection to it. Head-to-toe bright fuchsia may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but it is a great way to inject a little fun and escapism into your wardrobe – especially in the cold winter months (especially post lockdown). Shocking pink is also surprisingly easy to pull off as it goes with most colours and skin tones. You could also stick to one vibrant accessory as a nod to the trend without going full Malibu Barbie.

At Globe-Trotter, our core collections are a little more subdued than the rainbow brights that have inundated the catwalks this year but there are still plenty of options. In 2020, we introduced the Pop London Square collection, which features a series of vibrant bags with colour-clashing detailing and patterned lining. The Disney – This Bag Contains Magic Collection also features bright colours and silhouettes of Mickey Mouse. And, of course, you can always go off-piste and design your own suitcase with our online configurator – with Vulcanised Fibreboard options in Flamingo, Lemon, Magenta, Parrot Green and Lilac.
