F1 2024 Insider's Guide No. 13 – Hungary

The Hungarian Grand Prix takes place at the famous Hungaroring in Magyaród. Although the race has a century-long history, its modern incarnation began intriguingly as the first race behind the Iron Curtain in 1986. The Hungaroring has undergone changes over the years but still retains its reputation as a challenging track for overtaking. While lacking long straights, it compensates with slow, technical corners. In short, conquering the Hungaroring is no easy feat. One of the most popular events in Europe, racing here has many happy memories for Aston Martin Aramco Formula One Team driver Fernando Alonso, as it was the scene of the Spaniard’s maiden Grand Prix win in 2003.

Besides enjoying the exhilarating F1 action, consider spending time in Budapest—the cosmopolitan capital—exploring its ruin bars, or head to Lake Balaton for some summer sun.

History comes alive

Hapsburg capital – Take a stroll along the scenic Danube, starting from the Parliament of Hungary—a building often noted for its resemblance to the fictional Hogwarts. Appreciate the Hapsburg Imperial architecture and enjoy the fresh air on Margaret’s Island, situated in the middle of the river. For sultry summer days, visit the art deco Lido complex known as Palatinus. When it’s time to rest, consider staying at the celebrity-favourite Kempinski Corvinus Hotel, located in the city’s main square. Indulge in Hungarian cuisine at ES Bisztro and enjoy drinks at Blue Fox. "Experience a touch of Hollywood as the culinary and social phenomenon, Spago by Wolfgang Puck, opens its first European restaurant in Budapest, with its flagship location in Beverly Hills." What’s new in Hungary?

Fresh developments – The Liget Project is introducing new developments and enhancements to the city’s renowned park, including the new Museum of Ethnography. Verno House, a recently established hotel is situated in a tranquil locale. It boasts a palette of autumnal greens, greys, and browns, complemented by mid-Century furniture and lighting. The in-house restaurant, The Flava, has garnered acclaim for its Hungarian cuisine. Meanwhile, Verno’s sister hotel, the recently opened Dorothea, exudes sophistication. Adding a touch of Parisian glamour to Budapest, the glitzy Parisi Udvar has transformed from a former shopping arcade into a boutique hotel. It features an elegant café, bar, and restaurant, along with period details in its design and architecture.
