Abu Dhabi has quickly become the traditional home of the F1 season finale since joining the F1 calendar in 2009. The Yas Marina Circuit in the Emirate, designed by German racer and noted racetrack designer Hermann Tilke, is a fitting venue for a finale – the sun setting on the season and the circuit, with the race taking place in the twilight hours.
This year’s F1 season has been full of drama and now with one race left, Aston Martin Aramco Cognizant Formula One® Team looks to end the campaign strongly. The Rolling Stones’ famous tongue and lips logo adorned Lance’s and Fernando’s cars at the Las Vegas Grand Prix last week to celebrate the band’s new album release and the pair will be hoping to get some Satisfaction on the track this weekend following their determined comeback drives in Vegas.
How can you enjoy art?
The Louvre – The Louvre in Abu Dhabi has become one of the most visited attractions and one of the most popular art galleries in the Gulf. An offshoot, of course, of Paris’ storied art museum, it has been wowing visitors since its inception in 2017 - and the architecture by Jean Nouvel has entranced as much as the art inside - by the likes of Mondrian and Manet.
Where has style in spades?
The WB – Film and TV fans will go wild for the WB - a Warner Brothers-themed luxury hotel which has nods to all your favourites from the Warners world. Batman posters and comic books feature but it’s not childish or twee - stylish rooms match with a relaxing rooftop pool and superior service, all part of the Curio Collection of boutique hotels.
How can you get out into nature?
Desert Safari + Al Wathba Resort – Al Wathba Resort is a true oasis in the desert offering high-end accommodation in a village surrounding several small courtyards. There’s a spa and numerous desert exploration options on hand nearby including hikes, biking, desert dune drives, horse and camel riding, falconry and flying.
Where can you get winter sun?
At the beach – Abu Dhabi’s clean beaches are home to snakes, sharks and jellyfish - but don’t let the abundant nature put you off. Miles of sand and warm Gulf waters make this the ideal place to relax on the sand or play some beach volleyball. The Corniche Beach stretches for 8km and there are tricked out private beach clubs too. Swimming in the sea is highly recommended.
Which building has stunning architecture?
Andaz Capital Gate – The famous Leaning Tower of Abu Dhabi will have you scratching your head about how it stays standing. Architects RMJM have done the calculations though - and this distinctive building stands out on the skyline. The Andaz Capital Gate Hotel takes floors 18-33 for a luxury hotel which offers everything you need for a perfect city stay in Abu Dhabi - including an in-house art gallery.
Where can you indulge in luxury?
Intercontinental – Moor your yacht if you’re arriving by sea and you can literally step into the Intercontinental, which is right by the water. In fact the hotel’s own marina has room for almost 200 65 foot boats. The resort has its own private beach, pool and several bars and restaurants too. Lavish rooms come with a view - and you can sail over to the F1 track.
