Globe-Trotter Celebrates 250 Years Of Hand & Lock - GLOBE-TROTTER

To mark Hand & Lock’s 250th anniversary and in support of their fundraising efforts for the Queen Elizabeth Scholarship Trust (QEST) of which Globe-Trotter is a patron, the brand has donated a bag to be customised as part of Hand & Lock’s ‘The Embellished Handbag’ project.

The ‘Propellor’ overnight bag in navy pebbled bull leather from the current Globe-Trotter collection has been embellished by Hand & Lock with intricately hand- embroidered travel stickers. The designs have been taken from an extraordinary suitcase that recently found its way into the Globe-Trotter archive.

The unassuming exterior of the original 1960s Globe-Trotter trunk belies the captivating secret concealed within: a beautiful collection of over 50 travel stickers from all around the globe. From Rio de Janeiro and Buenos Aires to Singapore and Tokyo, from Rome and Beirut to Honolulu and New York, the case travelled the world with its owner Hilary Farish, a BOAC air stewardess between 1960 - 69.

With Globe-Trotter also celebrating its 120th anniversary in 2017, its designer Charlotte Seddon took inspiration from the archival piece for the spring/summer 2017 collection which encompasses luggage, bags and accessories, all of which are handcrafted in Hertfordshire. The range will be available in-store and online from February 2017, coinciding with the launch of Hand & Lock’s ‘The Embellished Handbag’ project at the Victoria & Albert Museum in London. The bags, also including pieces from Asprey, Mulberry and Vivienne Westwood amongst others, will then embark on a tour including Chicago and Sydney before returning to London to be auctioned at the gala dinner in December 2017, raising funds for QEST.
