The British luggage maker celebrates the influential style of the world’s most famous spy with a new release
It’s hard to think of a fictional character more sartorially iconic than James Bond. It’s an especially impressive feat seeing as he’s been in the public consciousness since the early 1950s. But it was when 007 made his big-screen debut in 1962’s Dr. No, depicted by the equally suave Sean Connery, his style became globally recognised and admired.
This summer, Globe-Trotter will launch its first permanent 007 collection inspired by James Bond’s classic, influential style and glamorous global assignments. The new 007 collection takes the form of classic 4-wheeled Carry-On and Check-In cases, as well as a Small Attaché case. The Vulcanised Fibreboard body comes in a chic grey tone with matching leather straps and corners and a stylish navy lining. Additional leather accessories include four detachable charms featuring classic Bond emblems: the Spectre and 007 logos, a Poker chip and Odd Job's top hat.
To complement 007’s luggage of choice on film in recent years, the British suitcase-maker has produced several collections around movie releases and anniversaries so that fans can recreate Bond’s style at home and on-the-move. But this is Globe-Trotter’s first 007 collection dedicated to celebrating James Bond’s iconic style.
Vicente Castellano, Globe-Trotter’s executive chairman commented on the launch: ‘Building on our long-standing relationship with EON and the 007 franchise, we’re thrilled to continue the partnership by launching this new 007 luggage collection. We’re delighted to be part of this exciting new chapter.’
But before this new chapter begins in earnest, we’ve taken a look back on Globe-Trotter’s previous Bond collections:
Skyfall, 2012
Commemorating Daniel Craig’s third outing as 007, the Skyfall Carry-On suitcase is, like the spy himself, a masterclass in elegant simplicity. Created using Vulcanised Fibreboard, the case sports a black box grain leather trim and chrome locks. Inside, a tonal grey jacquard weave recalls James Bond's gun barrel design.
Spectre, 2015
Three years after Skyfall came Spectre, accompanied by another commemorative collection from Globe-Trotter. The Spectre range features a navy Vulcanised Fibreboard body with Saffiano grain leather corners and straps plus brass hardware. It’s available as a 2-wheel Carry-On, Large Suitcase and Attaché.
No Time to Die, 2021
No Time to Die saw Daniel Craig’s final return as James Bond in the 007 franchise. To celebrate his cinematic swansong, Globe-Trotter launched the No Time to Die Vulcanised Fibreboard Luggage collection, inspired by the cases that feature in the movie. The range introduced a chic new Ocean Green colourway with black leather trim, which incorporated a 4-wheel Carry-On case, Check-In size and Attaché. A classic black luggage tag embossed with the No Time to Die logo completed the range.
Dr. No, 2022
Back to where it all began… Released in 1962, Dr. No was the debut cinematic release of the James Bond franchise, and 2022 marked its 60th anniversary. It was Albert R. Broccoli and Harry Saltzman who adapted Ian Fleming’s Dr. No for the big screen and, in doing so, began the longest running franchise in film history, with a record-breaking 25 Bond films produced to date. Globe-Trotter launched a collection to celebrate this historic anniversary, inspired by the ‘coloured dots’ of the iconic opening sequence. Designed by Maurice Binder, the Dr. No title sequence is a Modernist vision: his titles create the visual elements that became icons of popular culture. The coloured dots change colour, position and form patterns at the same high tempo as the score and are just one element of a hugely influential sequence.
Octopussy, 2023
Another anniversary, another iconic film: Globe-Trotter produced a limited-edition collection in 2023 to mark 40 years of Octopussy, Roger Moore’s sixth outing as the enigmatic spy. The eye-catching design featured an illustrated octopus wrapped around the Vulcanised Fibreboard suitcase, inspired by the same design found on Octopussy’s silk robe from the film. As well as the illustration, the sleek black suitcase features a vibrant ‘holiday orange’ leather handle and brass hardware. It is available as a 4-wheel Carry-On case, a 4-wheel Check-In case and an Attaché. Each suitcase also comes with a specially designed leather patch featuring the 007 logo and a lining with the Octopussy logo from the movie poster, which was designed by artist Maciek Piotrowski.
